In June I’ve met Chris Kresser in Stocholm and asked him a few questions.
Question 2: Could you tell us maybe what’s the main difference between functional medicine and the modern allopathic medicine?
Previous question: How did you get interested in Functional Medicine?
Transcript: Interview with Chris Kresser Q2 Difference between Functional and conventional medicine?
SANDI: Could you tell us maybe what’s the main difference between functional medicine and the modern allopathic medicine?
CHRIS: Yeah, conventional medicine, really some people refer to it as sick care, rather than health care, or maybe disease management, because it focuses overwhelmingly on managing disease after it has already occurred and suppressing symptoms with drugs and sometimes surgery, where’s Functional medicine is really actually ideally aimed at preventing disease before it ever occurs, but even if the disease is already there it’s focused on reversing it by using diet, lifestyle, behavior change, maybe some supplements and herbs. And only rarely, when all other avenues have been exhausted, drugs. So it’s a fundamentally different focus, as treating disease from inside out, rather than from the outside in.
And that’s really what we need now because we are suffering from the worst chronic epidemic disease humans have ever faced and it’s really threatening our quality of life, our economic system and future generations.
