Quintron Lactulose SIBO breath test (3 hours, 10 samples)
Quintron is the industry leader in breath testing. It’s machines are regarded as the most accurate on the market.
SIBO or Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth is a condition where bacteria proliferate at the wrong end of the intestines.
As we want to measure where in the intestines bacteria occur a stool test cannot be used. A special breath test is used for this purpose.
Bacteria ferment some nutrients and the fermentation process produces gases like hydrogen and methane (constipation), that can be detected in your breath.
A special substance called Lactulose is used to provide food for the bacteria. Once you drink it, it travels through your intestines and when it comes in contact with bacteria you will see a spike in either hydrogen or methane.
Breath samples are taken and stored in vacuum tubes every 20 minutes for most accurate results.
Completing the test is easy. Everything you need is included in the collection kit: lactulose, vacuum tubes and the tool to fill them.
You will also get detailed instructions as a downloadable PDF file once your order is complete.
Lactulose or glucose for testing SIBO?
There are 2 types of SIBO test available, a lactulose or a glucose test. We recommend using lactulose as it is not absorbed in the intestines and only the bacteria can ferment it.
The human intestines readily absorb glucose and can thus produce false negative results.
